Nabih Berri Expresses Reservations Regarding Framework Agreement with Israel
Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri stated that the proposed framework agreement with Israel does not fully guarantee Lebanon's rights. These remarks come at a sensitive time as the region witnesses intensive diplomatic efforts to reach a de-escalation and a cessation of ongoing military operations.
The proposed agreement includes several key points aimed at ending the conflict in the south. Among the most prominent points are the disarmament of Hezbollah in border areas, in addition to the gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from territories they recently entered in southern Lebanon.
The agreement also calls for a wide deployment of the Lebanese Army in southern regions to ensure security and stability. This step aims to strengthen the sovereignty of the Lebanese state over all its territories and prevent new armed clashes in the future, with support from the international community.
However, Nabih Berri believes that the current terms of the agreement may not be sufficient to protect Lebanese national interests. He emphasized the need for clear guarantees that preserve the country's sovereignty and prevent any future aggression, noting that negotiations are still ongoing to reach an acceptable formula.
In conclusion, the situation in southern Lebanon remains complex as discussions continue over the details of this agreement. The international community awaits the results of these negotiations to see whether they will lead to lasting stability in the region or if political obstacles will delay reaching a final solution.
