NTUC Appoints First Job Security Chief to Support Singaporean Workers
The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) has officially appointed its first Chief Job Security, Caryn Lim. This new role was created to address the changing needs of the Singaporean workforce and to ensure that employees remain competitive in a fast-moving economy.
In her new position, Ms. Lim is focusing on two specific groups that face significant career challenges: fresh graduates and older Professionals, Managers, and Executives (PMEs). She noted that many young people entering the workforce today feel discouraged by the current job market, while older workers often struggle to adapt to new technologies and industry shifts.
To help these groups, NTUC plans to expand its support programs. For fresh graduates, the organization aims to provide better career guidance and internship opportunities to help them transition smoothly from school to work. Meanwhile, for older PMEs, the focus will be on reskilling and upskilling, ensuring they have the necessary tools to stay relevant in their roles.
Ms. Lim emphasized that job security is no longer just about keeping a position, but about being prepared for the future. By identifying these gaps in the labor market, NTUC hopes to build a more resilient workforce that can handle economic changes.
As Singapore continues to navigate global economic uncertainties, this new leadership role highlights the importance of proactive career support. NTUC remains committed to working with employers and the government to create a stable environment where all workers can succeed.
