Singapore PC Prices Rise Sharply Due to Global AI Demand
Consumers in Singapore are facing significantly higher costs when shopping for new computers. Recent market data shows that the prices of personal computers (PCs) have increased by up to 40 per cent, making technology more expensive for students, professionals, and gamers alike.
This price surge is largely driven by the global artificial intelligence (AI) boom. As tech companies around the world race to develop and train new AI models, there is a massive increase in the demand for high-performance computer chips and hardware components. This high demand has created a supply shortage, which has pushed prices up for everyday consumer electronics.
According to the latest figures, the impact is felt across different categories of devices. Regular desktop computers have seen a price increase of 28 per cent, with the average cost rising to approximately S$1,410. The change is even more noticeable for gaming equipment, with gaming desktops jumping by 39 per cent to reach nearly S$1,860.
Industry experts suggest that this trend may continue as long as the demand for AI technology remains high. For many Singaporeans, this means that upgrading to a new machine will require a larger budget than in previous years. Shoppers are encouraged to compare prices carefully and consider their specific needs before making a purchase in the current market.
