Singapore to Prepare for 2027 ASEAN Chairmanship
Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has announced that Singapore is working closely with the Philippines to ensure a smooth transition of the ASEAN chairmanship. Singapore is scheduled to take over this leadership role from the Philippines in 2027.
The ASEAN chairmanship is a significant responsibility that rotates among the ten member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The chair plays a key role in setting the agenda for the regional bloc and hosting major summits throughout the year.
During the transition period, both nations will coordinate their efforts to maintain continuity in regional policies. This cooperation is intended to help Singapore prepare effectively for the responsibilities that come with leading the organization.
As the chair, Singapore will be responsible for guiding discussions on important regional issues, including economic integration and security cooperation. The government aims to ensure that the transition process is seamless to support the ongoing goals of the ASEAN community.
