Singapore Politician Lim Tean Deported Following Arrest in Malaysia
Singaporean lawyer and politician Lim Tean was handed over to local authorities on August 11 after being arrested in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The arrest occurred following his failure to surrender to the Singapore police to begin a jail term.
Mr. Lim, who is known for his role as the leader of the political party Peoples Voice, had been facing legal issues in Singapore. Authorities confirmed that he was detained by Malaysian officials before being transferred across the border to Singaporean custody.
This incident follows a series of legal proceedings involving Mr. Lim. He had previously been ordered to serve a prison sentence, but he did not report to the authorities as required by the court’s decision.
Singaporean police have stated that they are currently processing the case according to the law. The return of the politician marks the end of his time in Malaysia, and he is now under the control of Singaporean law enforcement agencies to face his outstanding legal obligations.
