Malaysia Explains Design of New RTS Link Station

The Malaysian government has clarified why the new Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) complex and the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link station in Johor Bahru were built as separate structures. This project is a major infrastructure development designed to improve travel between Singapore and Malaysia.

According to Malaysia’s Transport Minister Anthony Loke, the decision to separate the two buildings was necessary due to the presence of underground pipelines. These pipelines are managed by Singapore’s Public Utilities Board (PUB) and run directly through the construction area. Engineers had to design the site carefully to ensure these essential utilities remained undisturbed during the building process.

Because of these technical constraints, the CIQ complex and the RTS station could not be integrated into a single building. Instead, they are connected by a bridge, which will allow passengers to move between the immigration area and the train platform efficiently. Officials stated that this layout ensures both the safety of the pipelines and the operational requirements of the transit system.

The RTS Link is a highly anticipated project for many people in Singapore and Malaysia. Once completed, it will provide a fast and reliable way for thousands of commuters to travel across the border every day. The train service aims to reduce traffic congestion at the existing land checkpoints, making daily travel much smoother.

Construction of the RTS Link is progressing steadily, and authorities from both countries are working closely together to meet the project deadlines. As the project nears completion, it is expected to strengthen economic and social ties between Singapore and Johor Bahru, offering a convenient travel option for both residents and tourists.
