North-South Corridor Construction Facing Two-Year Delay
Commuters and residents in Singapore will have to wait longer for the completion of the North-South Corridor (NSC). Authorities recently announced that the major transport project, which aims to improve travel times across the island, has been delayed by two years.
Originally expected to be finished sooner, the project is now scheduled to open in stages starting from 2028. This delay is primarily due to various construction challenges encountered during the building process, which have made it difficult to keep to the original timeline.
Once the project reaches this new milestone in 2028, the public can expect to see significant changes in their neighborhoods. Roads and footpaths that were previously closed or restricted due to construction work will begin to reopen to the public.
Additionally, residents living near the construction sites will see the large noise barriers start to come down. These barriers have been a common sight for years, and their removal will be a welcome sign that the long-term construction work is finally nearing its end.
While the delay may be disappointing for those hoping for faster commutes, the phased opening will allow the government to manage the transition more effectively. Officials continue to monitor the progress of the corridor to ensure that safety and quality standards are met before the new infrastructure is fully operational.
