President Ramaphosa Marks SADC Day with Call for Regional Unity

President Cyril Ramaphosa has addressed the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to mark SADC Day, which is celebrated annually on 17 August. In his role as the Chairperson of the organization, the President highlighted the importance of cooperation between the 16 member states in the region.

In his official message, President Ramaphosa emphasized that regional integration is essential for economic growth and stability. He noted that by working together, Southern African countries can better address shared challenges, such as infrastructure development, trade barriers, and the movement of people across borders.

South Africa plays a central role in the SADC region, serving as a major hub for trade and investment. The President’s message focused on the need for member states to align their policies to create a more competitive regional market. This, he argued, would help to improve the lives of citizens by creating more job opportunities and reducing poverty.

Beyond economic goals, the President also touched upon the importance of peace and security. He stated that a stable region is necessary for progress and encouraged all member states to continue resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy. He reaffirmed South Africa's commitment to supporting regional efforts that promote democracy and human rights.

As the SADC Chairperson, President Ramaphosa concluded his message by calling for a renewed sense of solidarity among the people of Southern Africa. He urged leaders and citizens alike to remain dedicated to the vision of a prosperous and unified region, ensuring that the benefits of development are shared by everyone.
