Eastern Cape Leader Calls for Urgent Action Against Violence and Child Abuse
Bukiwe Fanta, a government official in South Africa’s Eastern Cape, has called for urgent action to stop violence against women and children. She described the current situation as a crisis that requires everyone to work together. This message comes after new reports showed a high number of crimes in the province.
Recent data from the Department of Social Development reveals the scale of the problem. In a short period, there were 60 reported cases of femicide, which is the intentional killing of women. Additionally, more than 3,000 cases of child abuse were reported, highlighting a serious safety issue for the most vulnerable members of society.
MEC Fanta emphasized that the government cannot solve this problem alone. She urged communities, families, and local organizations to join the fight against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). The provincial government is looking for ways to improve safety and provide better support for victims of these crimes.
The call for action serves as a reminder that violence remains a major challenge in the region. By speaking out, officials hope to encourage people to report abuse and work toward a safer future. The Eastern Cape government remains committed to finding solutions to protect its citizens from further harm.
