March and March movement decides to stay out of politics
The anti-illegal-immigrant movement known as 'March and March' has officially announced that it will not enter the world of party politics. The group’s leader, Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, confirmed that the organization plans to remain an independent pressure group rather than becoming a political party.
Ngobese-Zuma explained that the movement has a different vision for its future. Instead of competing for seats in government, the group aims to become a powerful advocacy organization. She compared this new direction to the role of AfriForum, which focuses on protecting the rights and interests of specific communities through legal and social action.
By choosing this path, the movement intends to focus on its core mission of addressing issues related to illegal immigration. The leadership believes that by staying outside of formal politics, they can better influence public policy and hold authorities accountable without the complications of running a political campaign.
This decision marks a clear turning point for the organization. While many supporters had hoped to see the movement on the ballot in future elections, the leadership is now committed to a strategy of civil advocacy. It remains to be seen how this shift will impact the group's influence on national debates regarding immigration in South Africa.
