Changwon City Discusses Plans for the Former Lotte Department Store Masan Branch
It has been over two years since the former Lotte Department Store Masan branch in Changwon, Gyeongnam, closed its doors. As the surrounding commercial area has significantly declined since the department store disappeared, a public hearing was held where local residents and stakeholders gathered to discuss how to utilize the building.
This public hearing was organized to address the negative impact that the long-abandoned large building has had on the local economy. Attendees unanimously agreed that the local commercial district is facing a serious crisis, noting that foot traffic has decreased and sales at nearby shops have plummeted since the department store closed.
Various ideas for revitalizing the building were presented during the hearing. In particular, in-depth discussions took place regarding concrete utilization plans, such as attracting public institutions or transforming the space into a cultural hub for local residents.
The local community hopes that this public hearing will serve as an opportunity to resolve the issue of the former Lotte Department Store Masan branch as soon as possible. Changwon City plans to actively collect citizens' opinions and develop practical measures to revitalize the local economy.
