COVID-19 Vaccination to Become 'Essential' Starting the 12th of Next Month
The government is changing the COVID-19 vaccination system. COVID-19 vaccinations, which have been optional until now, will be transitioned into a national essential vaccination program starting on the 12th of next month and will be implemented in full force.
This measure was decided to protect high-risk groups and strengthen the social safety net as COVID-19 has become an endemic infectious disease. The government emphasized that it is important to maintain immunity by receiving vaccinations regularly every year.
Information regarding the target groups for vaccination and specific schedules can be checked through local public health centers and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency website. In particular, those in high-risk groups, such as seniors aged 65 and older or the immunocompromised, are strongly encouraged to participate according to this vaccination schedule.
Through this transition to essential vaccination, the government expects to significantly reduce the risk of severe illness and death caused by COVID-19. We ask that all citizens check their nearest designated medical institutions and get vaccinated safely.
