South Korean Single-Person Households Satisfied with 'Living Alone,' but Concerned About Retirement Preparation
According to the '2024 Korea Single-Person Household Report' recently released by KB Financial Group, single-person households in South Korea are experiencing a high level of satisfaction with living alone. However, the survey also found that they feel significant anxiety regarding health issues and financial preparation for retirement.
According to the report, the biggest concern for single-person households is 'financial stability.' While they previously preferred bank savings or deposits, there has been a clear trend toward increasing assets through investment products such as stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recently. This is interpreted as an intention to hedge against inflation and prepare retirement funds more efficiently.
In addition, single-person households are showing a great deal of interest in health management. Recognizing that it is difficult to receive help when ill because they live alone, there is an increasing effort to take care of their own health through regular medical check-ups and exercise. There is also a trend of prioritizing safety and convenience in residential environments.
Experts emphasize that as the number of single-person households continues to grow, customized financial products and social safety nets for them are increasingly necessary. To maintain a life of living alone in a healthier and more stable manner, not only individual efforts but also social interest and support must be provided.
