National Assembly Forms Special Committee for Personnel Hearing to Appoint New Prime Minister
The National Assembly of the Republic of Korea has officially begun preparations for the appointment of a new Prime Minister. The National Assembly recently formed a 'Special Committee for Personnel Hearing' to consent to the Prime Minister's appointment and announced the key lawmakers who will lead the committee. This committee will be responsible for thoroughly vetting whether the nominee is a suitable person for the position of Prime Minister.
Representative Baek Hye-ryun of the Democratic Party of Korea has been appointed as the chair of this special committee. In addition, Representative Kim Han-kyu of the Democratic Party of Korea and Representative Kang Seung-gyu of the People Power Party have been appointed as the executive secretaries to coordinate opinions and negotiate schedules between the ruling and opposition parties. They plan to discuss the specific operational methods for the upcoming hearing.
The Prime Minister is a very important position that assists the President and oversees the executive branch. According to South Korean law, even if the President nominates a candidate for Prime Minister, they must obtain the consent of the National Assembly to be finalized for appointment. Therefore, this personnel hearing is a crucial step in the stable formation of the government's new cabinet.
During the personnel hearing process, committee members will focus their questions on the nominee's morality, job performance capabilities, and views on major national policies. Lawmakers from both the ruling and opposition parties plan to meticulously examine whether the nominee is the right person to improve the lives of the people and lead the country in the right direction.
Once the upcoming personnel hearing is concluded, a vote on the motion for the appointment of the nominee will be held at a plenary session of the National Assembly. Much public attention is focused on whether a new Prime Minister will be elected and what discussions will take place during the hearing process.
