Government to Invest 1.26 Trillion Won to Revitalize Regional and Essential Medical Services
The government has decided to inject a large-scale budget to rectify the collapsed regional medical system and strengthen essential medical services. On July 30, the Medical Innovation Committee announced the 'Strategy for Strengthening Regional, Essential, and Public Healthcare,' stating that it would provide a total budget of 1.26 trillion won.
The core of this strategy is to manage the country by dividing it into large, medium, and small medical service areas based on the scale of treatment. The government plans to divide the country into five major regions and three special regions, with the goal of fostering national university hospitals in each area to the level of the 'Big 5' major hospitals in Seoul.
Through this, the government intends to ensure that local residents can receive high-quality medical services near where they live without having to travel far to Seoul. In particular, it plans to focus on reducing gaps in essential medical fields directly linked to life, such as emergency situations and surgeries.
The government expects this policy to serve as an important opportunity to resolve medical disparities between regions and improve the quality of public healthcare. Moving forward, it plans to resolve issues in the regional medical field through concrete implementation plans.
