South Korea and Chile Reactivate FTA Committee After 10 Years… Strengthening Economic Cooperation
President Yoon Suk Yeol recently held a summit with the President of Chile and agreed to strengthen economic and cultural cooperation between the two countries. This summit is expected to serve as an important opportunity to take the relationship between South Korea and Chile to the next level.
The most notable point is that the South Korea-Chile Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Committee will be reconvened for the first time in 10 years. Through this committee, the two countries have decided to review pending issues in trade and investment and discuss concrete measures to further vitalize trade relations between the two nations.
In addition, cooperation in the infrastructure sector was also emphasized during the summit. In particular, ways for South Korean companies to participate and cooperate in the 'Chacao Bridge' construction project, a major project in Chile, were discussed. This is expected to be a significant boost for South Korea's excellent construction technology to enter the South American market.
Discussions on cultural exchange also followed. The President of Chile mentioned that South Korean pop culture, including BTS, is greatly loved by the Chilean people, and expressed hope that the two countries will become even closer culturally in the future.
Through this summit, South Korea and Chile have promised cooperation in a wide range of fields, including the economy, infrastructure, and culture. It is expected that the two countries will achieve tangible results and become even closer partners moving forward.
