South Korea Successfully Conducts First Test Launch of Domestic Hypersonic Missile
South Korea has successfully conducted the first test launch of a hypersonic glide vehicle (HGV) developed with its own technology. This test is drawing even more attention as it took place just five days after North Korea launched a hypersonic intermediate-range missile.
Hypersonic missiles fly at extremely high speeds exceeding five times the speed of sound, and are characterized by being difficult to detect or intercept with existing defense systems. With this success, South Korea has secured a powerful deterrent to respond to threats from neighboring countries.
Military experts evaluate this test launch as an important example showing that South Korea's defense technology has reached a world-class level. In particular, the vehicle is known to be capable of flying along complex paths, giving it the ability to effectively penetrate enemy defense networks.
Based on this success, the government and military authorities plan to accelerate further research and development for the operational deployment of hypersonic missiles. South Korea's move is interpreted as a determination to build a strong defense posture amidst the security situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula.
