Will the Era of Passport-Free Travel Between Korea and Japan Arrive? A New Proposal from the Tourism Industry
Recently, the tourism industries in Korea and Japan have been putting forward bold proposals to make travel between the two countries more convenient. The most notable idea is to allow free travel between the two nations using only a national ID card, without the need for a passport. This is being discussed with the goal of reducing inconvenience for travelers and revitalizing tourism.
Currently, travel between Korea and Japan is very active, but the immigration process requires travelers to prepare and verify their passports. The tourism industry has proposed simplifying these procedures to integrate the two countries into a single tourism zone. This would allow travelers to cross borders more easily and quickly.
In addition, plans to connect the payment systems of both countries are also being discussed. If this system is introduced, travelers will be able to make payments conveniently anywhere in both countries using their smartphones or cards without the hassle of currency exchange. This is expected to provide great convenience to tourists.
These proposals are part of an effort to further increase human exchange between the two countries and enhance the competitiveness of the tourism industry. Of course, there are many hurdles to overcome before actual implementation, such as close consultation between the two governments and the resolution of security issues.
Attention is now focused on how the Korean and Japanese governments will review these proposals from the tourism industry. If this plan is realized, it is expected to bring significant changes to the way people travel between the two countries.
