Cataract Surgeries Reach Record High of 690,000 in Korea Last Year
According to data recently released by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, cataract surgery was the most frequently performed surgery in Korea last year. The number of cataract surgeries reached a total of 690,000, ranking first in domestic surgical statistics.
Furthermore, the increase in cesarean section surgeries is also notable in these statistics. Cesarean sections showed the highest growth rate, increasing by 10.2% compared to the previous year. This is analyzed as a result of complex factors, including recent changes in the childbirth environment and medical judgments.
Meanwhile, in addition to these surgical statistics, the medical community is actively conducting research into new treatment methods utilizing advanced technology. In particular, technology that creates patient-specific bone grafts using 'Direct Ink Writing (DIW)', a 3D printing technique, is gaining attention.
This 3D printing technology is expected to provide more precise treatment for patients with bone defects. Attention is focused on how the advancement of medical technology will help improve patients' recovery and quality of life in the future.
The government and the medical community plan to continue their efforts to improve medical services based on accurate statistics and introduce new technologies to protect the health of the public.
