Health Alert for the Elderly Amidst Persistent Heatwaves
Recently, severe heatwave warnings have been issued day after day in the Gyeongnam region, including Changwon and Yangsan. As daytime high temperatures soar, calls to refrain from outdoor activities are growing louder.
Experts particularly warn that for the elderly, the home can actually become a dangerous space. In residential environments lacking adequate cooling facilities or proper ventilation, indoor temperatures can rise rapidly, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Amidst this situation, the Gyeongnam branch of the Korea Association of Health Promotion continues its efforts to protect the health of citizens. Recently, they held an 'Earth Check Plogging' event at Sanho Park, working to improve the local environment and promote health within the community.
During this period of persistent heatwaves, it is important to avoid outdoor activities during the day and stay well-hydrated. It is also a time when the interest of the local community is needed, such as checking on elderly neighbors to ensure they are safe.
The Korea Meteorological Administration has forecasted that the sweltering heat will continue for the time being. Citizens are advised to familiarize themselves with heatwave safety guidelines and take extra care of their health.
