Korea Leaps Forward as an 'AI Full Stack' Provider... Accelerating Infrastructure Expansion
The Korean government has begun taking full-scale action to secure global competitiveness in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Ministry of Science and ICT announced its ambition to transform Korea beyond a mere AI-using nation into an 'AI Full Stack' provider that directly offers all stages of AI technology.
To achieve this goal, the government has commenced the construction of the 'National AI Computing Center.' This center will serve as core infrastructure, providing high-performance computing resources essential for AI development to researchers and companies. This is expected to further accelerate the pace of AI technology development in Korea.
The government also decided to re-secure the Research and Development (R&D) budget and expand related organizations. In particular, as the Ministry of Science and ICT was elevated to a deputy prime minister-level ministry for the first time in 17 years, the power to drive AI policies has become even stronger. This demonstrates a strong commitment to intensively fostering the AI industry at the national level.
Korea is now also challenging the development of 'frontier models' that can lead the global market. The plan is not simply to follow existing technologies but to create independent and innovative AI models to compete in the global market. To this end, efforts will also be focused on improving rigid organizational cultures and creating a creative research environment.
Experts predict that if this plan is successfully implemented, Korea will be able to take the lead in the AI era. Attention is focused on what achievements Korea will make in the global AI market through the expansion of technical infrastructure and bold support.
