South Korean Single-Person Households Prefer Stocks and ETFs Over Savings Accounts… Still Concerned About Retirement
According to the '2024 Korea Single-Person Household Report' recently released by KB Financial Group, single-person households in Korea are satisfied with living alone but feel anxious about their health and retirement preparations. This report analyzed the economic situation and lifestyles of the rapidly increasing number of single-person households.
Survey results showed that single-person households tend to prefer investment products such as stocks or exchange-traded funds (ETFs) rather than traditional bank savings accounts. This is interpreted as an intention to grow assets more efficiently in a low-interest-rate environment.
However, aside from financial investments, respondents felt a significant burden regarding health management and preparing for retirement funds. Sudden illnesses that may occur while living alone and the economic void after retirement were cited as the biggest concerns.
Experts advise that since single-person households must bear all economic responsibilities on their own, systematic asset management and regular health checkups are more important than anything else. This report clearly illustrates the reality of single-person households, which have become a major household type in our society.
