Hyosung Heavy Industries Builds Korea's First 2GW-Class HVDC Performance Verification Facility
Hyosung Heavy Industries has built Korea's first 2GW (gigawatt)-class large-capacity HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) performance verification facility. This facility is considered a critical infrastructure for enhancing power grid stability and securing next-generation power technology.
HVDC technology converts alternating current (AC) power generated at power plants into direct current (DC) for transmission. Because it experiences less power loss than conventional methods and is advantageous for long-distance transmission, it is gaining attention as an essential technology for data centers and large-scale industrial complexes where power demand is surging.
The newly built 2GW-class performance verification facility allows for the pre-testing of equipment performance under conditions similar to actual operating environments. Through this, Hyosung Heavy Industries expects to accelerate the localization of core components that previously relied on foreign technology and significantly improve power grid stability.
A representative from Hyosung Heavy Industries stated that the construction of this facility will serve as an opportunity to enhance the competitiveness of the domestic power industry. Furthermore, the company plans to focus more on related technology development to meet the growing demand for connecting renewable energy to the power grid.
This achievement is expected to be a significant turning point for the further advancement of Korea's power infrastructure. As a stable power supply is core to the national economy, the efforts of domestic companies to secure related technologies are expected to become even more important in the future.
