KDCA Emphasizes International Cooperation for Pandemic Response at UN General Assembly

Commissioner Lim Seung-kwan of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) recently attended the UN General Assembly to emphasize the importance of international cooperation for global pandemic response. This visit was conducted to strengthen health cooperation between nations and discuss measures to jointly address potential future infectious disease crises.

At the UN General Assembly, Commissioner Lim met with representatives from various countries to share systems for infectious disease prevention and management. In particular, he stressed that the sharing of information between countries and the establishment of rapid response systems are essential in a pandemic situation, and he presented an international cooperation model based on South Korea's quarantine experience.

Meanwhile, in South Korea, various discussions are underway ahead of the institutionalization of non-face-to-face medical treatment scheduled for this coming December. While there are opinions in favor of expanding non-face-to-face treatment and medication delivery to increase medical accessibility, there are also concerns regarding the misuse and abuse of pharmaceuticals and the financial burden on the national health insurance system.

The government plans to pursue healthcare policies by comprehensively considering these domestic and international situations. The main tasks are to enhance infectious disease response capabilities internationally and to establish a rational non-face-to-face medical treatment system that ensures both patient convenience and safety domestically.

The KDCA intends to continue strengthening health security through close cooperation with international organizations and will consistently strive for the development of the domestic healthcare system.
