Samsung C&T Accelerates Entry into European Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Market
Samsung C&T’s Engineering & Construction Group is making a full-scale entry into the European small modular reactor (SMR) market. The company announced that it has recently formed a partnership with U.S.-based GE Vernova, Japan’s Hitachi, and SGE to pursue SMR projects within Europe.
This collaboration was initiated as the global energy transition toward carbon neutrality has become increasingly critical. SMRs are garnering attention as a next-generation energy source due to their advantages over traditional large-scale nuclear power plants, including their smaller size, enhanced safety, and shorter construction periods.
Through this partnership, Samsung C&T plans to identify SMR projects in the European market and participate in the entire process from design to construction. In particular, the companies aim to accelerate the development of energy infrastructure in Europe by combining their respective technological expertise and experience.
This business cooperation is expected to serve as a significant opportunity for a Korean company to expand its presence in the global nuclear power market. Samsung C&T intends to continue expanding its eco-friendly energy business and strengthening its competitiveness in the global market.
