Bithumb Introduces Video Call Identity Verification to Protect Elderly Users
As the number of users trading virtual assets through non-face-to-face channels continues to rise, there is a growing call to protect vulnerable groups from financial crimes. In response to this situation, virtual asset exchange Bithumb has established new safety measures to protect elderly users.
Bithumb announced that it will implement an additional identity verification process using video calls for users aged 65 and older. This measure is intended to prevent financial fraud, such as identity theft or voice phishing, which can occur during non-face-to-face transactions.
This process involves a customer service representative conducting a video call to verify the user's identity once more when an elderly user opens a virtual asset account or conducts a transaction. By strengthening identity verification in this way, it is expected that the risk of financial incidents will be significantly reduced.
A Bithumb official stated that the company plans to continue strengthening various protection policies to ensure that financially vulnerable groups can safely use digital financial services. This measure is expected to serve as an opportunity to provide a safer trading environment for elderly users.
