Bank of Korea Suffers Customer Data Breach Due to Third-Party Security Incident
The Bank of Korea announced that some customer personal information was leaked recently due to a security incident at an external vendor. It has been confirmed that a total of 186 individuals were affected by this incident.
The leak occurred through a security vulnerability in third-party software used by the Bank of Korea. The software in question had a feature that allowed browser extensions to access local files outside of the security perimeter during communication with external sources.
Through this security loophole, an external attacker gained access to the system, which resulted in the leakage of some personal information related to the Bank of Korea. Currently, the Bank of Korea has immediately blocked the affected systems and is conducting a thorough investigation.
A Bank of Korea official stated that as soon as the breach was discovered, they contacted the victims individually to inform them of the situation and offer an apology. They also explained that they are strengthening security protocols and developing measures to prevent a recurrence to mitigate further damage.
Financial authorities are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the leak. To protect personal information, users of financial institutions are advised to change their passwords periodically and exercise caution by not clicking on suspicious emails or links.
