Globalization of Korean Literature: Arts Council Korea and Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture Support Overseas Expansion
Arts Council Korea and the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture have paved a new path to help Korean writers expand their reach overseas. This support project was established to promote the excellence of Korean literature to the world and to assist domestic writers in performing on a broader stage.
Eun Hee-kyung, one of the writers representing the Korean literary scene, made a spectacular debut in 1995 with her first full-length novel, 'A Gift of Bird,' winning the 1st Munhakdongne Novel Award. Since then, she has published 16 novels and is credited with adding depth to Korean literature. It is expected that with this support, highly capable Korean writers like her will have more opportunities to meet international readers.
This program goes beyond simple translation support, including exchanges with overseas publishers and local promotional activities. Through this, it aims to provide systematic assistance so that Korean literature can overcome language barriers and become competitive in the global market.
It is expected that more Korean writers will publish their works abroad and spread the charm of Korean literature to the world. Arts Council Korea and the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture plan to continue various support policies for the globalization of Korean literature in the future.
