Uiryeong-gun Successfully Spreads Superior Genetics Through Hanwoo Embryo Transfer Project
The 'Hanwoo Embryo Transfer Project,' promoted by Uiryeong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, to improve the quality of Hanwoo cattle, is achieving remarkable results. This project involves selecting superior cows and semen to create embryos, which are then transferred into the uteri of other cows.
With conventional artificial insemination, the number of calves a single cow can produce in her lifetime is limited. However, by using embryo transfer technology, more calves with superior genetic traits can be produced, significantly increasing productivity for Hanwoo farms.
Through this project, Uiryeong-gun is rapidly improving the genetic value of Hanwoo cattle within the region. In particular, by securing a large number of Hanwoo with superior pedigrees, the county expects to contribute greatly to increasing farm income and strengthening the competitiveness of the Hanwoo industry.
Uiryeong-gun plans to continue distributing embryo transfer technology to more farms in the future. Attention is now focused on whether this project will successfully take root and allow Uiryeong Hanwoo to receive higher acclaim nationwide.
