Bithumb Strengthens Financial Protection by Introducing Video Call Identity Verification for the Elderly
Domestic virtual asset exchange Bithumb has introduced a new identity verification process to protect financially vulnerable individuals. As the number of users trading virtual assets non-face-to-face has recently increased, this measure is intended to safely protect elderly users from crimes such as identity theft.
The newly introduced system targets elderly users aged 65 and older. Bithumb has decided to implement an additional verification process via video call, in addition to existing identity verification methods, when opening or trading virtual asset accounts.
Through this, Bithumb plans to verify that the user is indeed the account holder, thereby preventing potential voice phishing or identity theft damage in advance. In particular, this is expected to be a significant help in reducing financial accidents that may occur among the elderly who are not familiar with using digital devices.
A Bithumb official stated that the company will continue to strengthen its security systems to ensure that all users can use virtual asset services with peace of mind, and will consistently develop various protection policies for the financially vulnerable.
