Gwangjin-gu Invests Own Budget to Improve Working Conditions in Urban Manufacturing
Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, has rolled up its sleeves to improve the working conditions of the urban manufacturing industry within the region. This project is the first of its kind to be promoted by Gwangjin-gu through its own allocated budget, separate from existing open-call projects by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Previously, environmental improvement projects conducted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government had limited budgets, making it difficult for all businesses to receive benefits. To address this issue, Gwangjin-gu decided to utilize its own budget to support more small-scale manufacturers so they can work in safe and pleasant environments.
Through this project, the district plans to repair facilities in aging workplaces and expand equipment for worker safety. In particular, it is expected that small-scale local manufacturing businesses that have been in poor conditions will receive practical help.
A Gwangjin-gu official stated that this project will serve as an opportunity to enhance the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry, which is the root of the local economy. The district plans to continue creating an environment where local manufacturers can grow sustainably by reflecting the voices from the field.
