KAIST to Build ‘Physical AI’ Platform Combining Robots and AI

KAIST has announced that it will build a ‘Physical AI’ platform that combines artificial intelligence (AI) technology with robots. This goes beyond AI in the form of simple software, applying AI to robots and autonomous vehicles that operate in the actual physical world.

The core of this project is the construction of a large-scale AI data center. This data center is planned to be a two-story building on a vast site of approximately 150,000 square meters. It will serve as a hub for processing the massive amount of data required for robots to learn and make decisions.

The new platform integrates the sensory functions of robots, their motor skills, and swarm intelligence where multiple robots cooperate as one. Through this, robots will be able to understand situations on their own and move safely even in complex environments.

KAIST expects that this infrastructure construction will take Korea's robot industry to the next level. There is much interest in how this platform will be utilized in the fields of autonomous vehicles and various service robots in the future.
