A meeting was recently held to assess the current state of inter-Korean relations and explore the future direction of the government's North Korea policy. Experts re-evaluated the four major agreements previously signed between the two Koreas and engaged in in-depth discussions on how to resolve the current strained relationship.
Professor Kim Keun-sik of the Department of Political Science and Diplomacy at Kyungnam University provided an objective analysis of the current state of inter-Korean relations during the forum. Professor Kim reflected on the significance of past agreements and presented on the direction that the Park Geun-hye administration should take regarding new inter-Korean agreements.
The core of the discussion centered on whether the government should maintain strategic caution to improve inter-Korean relations or if more proactive political decisions are required. Experts emphasized that inter-Korean relations should not simply remain within the framework of the past, and that practical channels for dialogue must be established in line with the changing international situation.
Inter-Korean relations are a matter of great importance for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. The various opinions presented at this forum are expected to serve as important reference material for the government as it establishes its North Korea policy and pursues new agreements in the future.
