Nine South Korean Nationals Confirmed to be Involved in Israeli Military Operations in Gaza
It has recently been made known that individuals holding South Korean nationality are involved in the ongoing military operations being conducted by the Israeli military in the Gaza Strip. According to confirmation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it has been identified that there are a total of nine South Korean nationals within the Israeli military, including seven individuals with dual citizenship of South Korea and Israel, and two with multiple citizenships.
This matter is raising significant concerns, as these individuals could potentially be linked to civilian casualties or allegations of genocide occurring within the Gaza Strip. International law experts point out that if it is confirmed that they directly participated in war crimes, they could be prosecuted as war criminals under international law.
Until now, the South Korean government had not been able to accurately grasp the status of South Korean nationals within the Israeli military. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed their presence belatedly and stated that it is closely monitoring the current situation. However, specific management or response plans for dual citizens serving in the military remain insufficient.
There is growing criticism from the international community regarding the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. In this context, the fact that South Korean nationals are participating in military operations could become a diplomatically sensitive issue.
