Government Announces 2040 Electricity Demand Forecast… Measures Prepared for AI Industry Growth
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea will hold a public hearing on the '2040 Electricity Demand Forecast' at the National Assembly on the 20th. This hearing has been organized to re-examine the national electricity supply and demand plan by reflecting the changing industrial environment, such as the rapid growth of the artificial intelligence (AI) industry and the construction of large-scale data centers.
With the recent advancement of AI technology, demand from data centers and semiconductor factories that consume electricity is increasing significantly. The government plans to precisely analyze the impact of these changes on future power consumption and establish new standards for a stable power supply.
In addition, this announcement will include plans to expand the supply of renewable energy by 2040. It is expected that concrete measures will be discussed to ensure a sufficient supply of electricity for industrial sites while achieving carbon neutrality goals.
The government intends to finalize the basic electricity supply and demand plan based on the opinions of experts and citizens gathered at this public hearing. This plan is expected to serve as a benchmark for determining the future industrial competitiveness and energy policy of the Republic of Korea.
