South Koreans' Mental Health Among the Lowest in the World… Urgent Countermeasures Needed
According to recently released data, the mental health status of South Koreans has been found to be at a very low level globally. In particular, being classified alongside Japan as one of the countries with the poorest mental health indicators is raising significant social concern.
Experts attribute this phenomenon to high academic competition, workplace stress, and feelings of social isolation. While many South Koreans feel excessive pressure in their daily lives, a negative perception regarding seeking counseling or treatment for mental health issues still persists.
The government and relevant organizations are making various efforts to address these problems. Policies are being pursued to expand mental health counseling services and lower the barriers so that anyone can easily receive psychological support. There are also moves to strengthen mental health education in schools and workplaces.
Mental health is a critical issue that is directly linked not only to individual happiness but also to the productivity of our society as a whole. It is time for our society to pay more attention to caring for the minds of individuals more carefully and to creating an environment where everyone can maintain a healthy state of mind.
