Korea South-East Power Strengthens Safety Management with "Zero On-site Accidents" Goal
Cho Young-hyeok, the new president of Korea South-East Power (KOEN), has officially begun his duties by prioritizing on-site safety immediately after his inauguration. During his recent inauguration ceremony and site inspections, President Cho strongly stated that "safety" must be the top priority in all operations.
The core of this announcement is "achieving zero on-site safety accidents." Since small mistakes can lead to major accidents at large-scale industrial sites such as power plants, thorough prevention and management are more important than anything else. President Cho demonstrated his commitment to preventing accidents in advance by personally visiting sites to inspect safety systems.
In South Korean society today, interest in industrial safety is higher than ever following the implementation of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act. Many public and private enterprises are strengthening their safety management systems to protect the lives of workers, and KOEN's recent move is interpreted as being in line with this social trend.
President Cho particularly emphasized communication with employees. He explained that listening directly to the voices of workers on-site and identifying and improving risk factors they perceive is the beginning of practical accident prevention. To this end, he plans to establish a field-oriented safety culture.
Finally, KOEN promised to fulfill its responsibility as a public enterprise to provide a stable power supply to the public while creating an environment where everyone can work with peace of mind. It is expected that these efforts will serve as an opportunity to raise the overall safety standards of the Korean industrial sector.
