NEC Disciplines 15 Employees Over Local Election 'Ballot Paper Incident'
The National Election Commission (NEC) has decided to discipline 15 employees to hold them accountable for the 'poor ballot paper management incident' that occurred during the last local election. This measure was taken to restore fairness and public trust in election management.
Of the 15 employees subject to disciplinary action, eight received heavy penalties. Specifically, the decisions included one dismissal, one demotion, and six suspensions. This was determined because the mistakes made during the election administration process were seen as a failure to fulfill their responsibilities as public officials.
The remaining seven employees received relatively light disciplinary actions. Among them, three were given salary reductions and four received reprimands. The NEC stated that this disciplinary action would serve as an opportunity to reaffirm the importance of election management duties.
Moving forward, the NEC plans to inspect its election management system and strengthen employee training to ensure that similar issues do not recur. The commission maintains that it will operate the ballot paper management system more strictly to ensure fair elections.
