13.5 trillion won in consumer coupons analyzed to have increased net consumption by 5.9 trillion won
It has been analyzed that the 13.5 trillion won worth of livelihood recovery consumer coupons distributed by the government last year had a certain effect in increasing actual consumption. According to related reports, the net consumption-boosting effect of the consumer coupons was estimated at about 5.9 trillion won.
The consumer coupons were distributed to support economic recovery and stabilize livelihoods. The total amount distributed was 13.5 trillion won, and of this, the amount of newly increased consumption was found to be about 5.9 trillion won. This shows that the use of the coupons may also have brought forward some consumption or replaced other spending.
This analysis examined how the government support payments affected household consumption. In particular, attention is being paid to the possibility that they helped supplement the consumption of lower-income groups or vulnerable households. However, it is interpreted that not the entire amount distributed led directly to additional consumption.
Experts and the government are expected to examine more closely the effects of future domestic demand stimulus policies based on these results. Although this consumer coupon program was smaller in effect than the total amount distributed, it is evaluated as a meaningful policy case in that it confirmed a real increase in consumption.
