JCS Investigating Cause of Landmine Explosion in Western DMZ
Three South Korean soldiers were injured in a landmine explosion that occurred in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on the western front on the 21st. The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
The JCS stated that it is highly likely the accident was caused by landmines planted by the North Korean military. The area where the explosion occurred is near the Military Demarcation Line, a place where our soldiers typically carry out operations.
Military authorities are analyzing the fragments found at the scene and the nature of the explosion to definitively confirm whether it was the work of North Korea. If it is finally confirmed that the accident was caused by landmines planted by the North Korean military, our military plans to take corresponding measures.
Currently, our military has strengthened its alert posture around the accident site and is checking for any additional hazards. A military official stated that they will conduct operations with the safety of the soldiers as the top priority.
