Professor Lee Soo-kyo of Korea University Ansan Hospital Wins Award at International Conference for AI-based Emergency Patient Triage Research
Professor Lee Soo-kyo of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Korea University Ansan Hospital was honored with the Best Poster Award at the recently held 'EMS Korea 2026' international conference. This award recognizes the achievements of his research on patient triage using artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the field of emergency medicine.
Professor Lee Soo-kyo's team developed an AI model that analyzes data from patients visiting the emergency room to rapidly identify those in need of urgent treatment. According to the research results, the model recorded a high accuracy rate of 70.7% in distinguishing between emergency patients and non-emergency patients.
In particular, the sensitivity in accurately identifying actual emergency patients reached 80.9%, significantly increasing its potential for application in emergency medical settings. This is expected to be a great help in resolving emergency room overcrowding and providing prompt treatment to critical patients.
This study demonstrates the effort to improve the quality of medical services by integrating digital technology into the emergency medical system. If this technology is introduced into actual clinical practice in the future, it is expected to play an important role in increasing the survival rate of emergency patients.
Academia is evaluating this study as an important milestone in enhancing the efficiency of the emergency medical system. Professor Lee Soo-kyo plans to continue various research projects to protect the safety of emergency patients.
