Government Pushes to Reform Healthcare Delivery System to Strengthen Regional and Essential Medical Services

The government recently announced a new strategy to strengthen regional and essential medical services. Reported to the Medical Innovation Committee on July 30, this strategy aims to systematically divide and manage the country so that citizens can receive necessary medical services wherever they are.

The government plans to reorganize the healthcare delivery system by subdividing the country into large, medium, and small medical districts. Large medical districts will be divided into 5 regions and 3 special zones, while there will be 70 medium medical districts and small medical districts will be organized by city, county, and district units. This is expected to enable customized support tailored to the medical demands of each region.

This reform plan also includes moves to newly incorporate areas that have lacked support, such as pancreatic disorders. Experts emphasize that the initiative should not stop at simply dividing medical districts, but must expand medical support that patients can tangibly experience.

Through this strategy, the government intends to reduce regional medical disparities and enhance the public nature of essential medical fields. Once specific implementation plans are established, it is expected that more stable medical services will be available anywhere in the country.
