Ministry of National Defense Announces Cases of Lax Operational Discipline, Including Negligence in Guard Duty at Army I Corps
The Ministry of National Defense recently disclosed instances of insufficient operational discipline within the military, emphasizing the need to establish firm military discipline. This announcement is raising public concern regarding the military's readiness posture.
The most problematic case involved negligence in guard duty at a frontline guard post (GP) within the Army I Corps. It was revealed that the personnel on duty at the time were performing their guard duties without live ammunition loaded in their firearms, which came as a major shock. As the frontline region is the core of national security, such a mistake is considered a very serious matter.
Additionally, cases of omissions were identified where reports related to the operation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by U.S. forces were not properly conveyed to superiors. This highlights a flaw in the military's intelligence reporting system.
The Ministry of National Defense stated that it would use these incidents as an opportunity to re-examine internal military discipline and prepare measures to prevent recurrence. Strengthening the military's readiness posture, along with a thorough investigation, has emerged as an urgent task.
