Prime Minister Han Duck-soo Inspects Offshore Wind Farm Site in Jeollanam-do
Prime Minister Han Duck-soo recently visited the construction site of an offshore wind farm located in Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do. This visit was arranged to personally inspect the site of the first and largest private-led offshore wind power project in the country and to encourage the officials involved.
The government is pursuing offshore wind power as a key task to realize carbon neutrality and expand renewable energy. The Jeonnam offshore wind farm inspected this time is expected to play a very important role in Korea's energy transition policy.
At the site, Prime Minister Han listened to the difficulties encountered during the project implementation process and emphasized that the government would spare no support, such as simplifying the licensing procedures. He also requested efforts to ensure the smooth progress of the project by preparing plans for coexistence with local residents.
Since offshore wind power generates electricity by utilizing the vast ocean, it is an eco-friendly energy source suitable for Korea, which has limited land. If this project is completed successfully, it is expected to contribute significantly not only to revitalizing the local economy but also to increasing the nation's overall energy self-sufficiency.
The government plans to continue technological development and institutional improvements so that the offshore wind power industry can achieve global competitiveness. Attention is now focused on whether this site inspection will serve as an opportunity to further accelerate domestic offshore wind power projects.
