New Cooperation Between Korea and Kazakhstan: ODA Budget Set at Record High
Exchanges between Korea and Kazakhstan have recently become more active. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it has opened the "Korea-Kazakhstan Cooperation Center" in Kazakhstan to facilitate bilateral cooperation. The opening of this center is being evaluated as a significant move by the Korean government to strengthen relations with Central Asian nations.
Along with this, the scale of Korea's Official Development Assistance (ODA) has also increased significantly. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Korea's ODA performance in 2023 reached approximately $3.13 billion, an increase from the previous year. ODA refers to funds or technical cooperation provided by the government to promote the economic development and welfare of developing countries.
The government plans to further expand its contribution to the international community by allocating the 2024 ODA budget at its largest-ever scale. This reflects Korea's determination to fulfill greater responsibilities on the world stage. In particular, more resources are expected to be invested in cooperation projects with key partner countries such as Kazakhstan.
Through the opening of this cooperation center and the expansion of the budget, Korea is expected to increase its influence in the Central Asian region. Moving forward, the two countries are projected to grow together by communicating more closely in various fields, including economy, culture, and technology. Such international cooperation will be of great help in broadening Korea's diplomatic horizons.
