Bithumb Introduces Video Call Identity Verification to Protect Elderly Investors
Domestic virtual asset exchange Bithumb has introduced a new identity verification procedure to protect elderly investors. This measure is intended to prevent financial crimes such as identity theft, as the number of people trading virtual assets via non-face-to-face channels has recently increased.
The newly implemented system requires elderly investors aged 65 and over to undergo an additional identity verification process via video call when trading virtual assets. Through this, the exchange can accurately confirm whether the investor is personally requesting the transaction.
Bithumb expects this measure to be a significant help in safely protecting the assets of the elderly, who are considered a financially vulnerable group. In particular, it is expected to have the effect of reducing criminal damage for elderly investors who may not be familiar with using digital devices.
