North Korea Issues Strong Statement Condemning South Korea's Participation in 'RIMPAC' Exercise
On the 17th, North Korea strongly condemned South Korea's participation in the 'Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC)' exercise, a multinational maritime drill led by the United States. North Korea expressed a highly negative reaction to South Korea's major involvement in this year's exercise.
Through its state-run media, North Korea expressed strong displeasure, describing the exercise as 'the reckless antics of international hooligans.' Furthermore, it claimed that such military exercises are escalating regional tensions and sent a warning message to the participating nations.
RIMPAC is the world's largest multinational maritime joint exercise hosted by the U.S. Navy. The South Korean Navy has dispatched large transport ships and destroyers to this exercise, focusing on improving joint operational capabilities and strengthening cooperation with allies.
This criticism from North Korea appears to have emerged amidst the strengthening of trilateral military cooperation between South Korea, the U.S., and Japan. Experts analyze that North Korea continues to react sensitively to South Korea-U.S. joint exercises and is expected to maintain a hardline stance against such military movements in the future.
Currently, the South Korean government and military authorities have not released a separate official statement regarding North Korea's declaration. However, they plan to maintain a robust readiness posture by carrying out scheduled joint exercises and defense plans without disruption.
