KOMCA Establishes Registration Standards for AI-Generated Music
With the recent advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the use of AI in music creation is becoming increasingly common. In response to these changes, the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) has established and implemented new copyright registration standards for music created using AI.
The core of these new standards is to verify the 'human creative contribution.' While AI can assist in the music-making process, the association has clarified the principle that copyright can only be recognized when human creative effort and contribution are involved.
Therefore, creators who produce music using AI must now specify the role humans played in the production process when applying for copyright registration. Through this, the association plans to clarify the scope of copyright protection and safeguard the rights of creators.
This measure is seen as an effort to strike a balance between technological advancement and copyright protection. As AI technology is expected to become more deeply integrated into the music industry, attention is focused on how these standards will impact the creative ecosystem.
