Five Spanish banks successfully test the future of digital money
Five major financial institutions, including Cecabank and Ibercaja, have successfully completed Spain's first trial of tokenized deposits. This project represents a significant step forward in the modernization of the national banking system and aims to explore new ways of managing money digitally and securely.
Tokenized deposits are a digital version of traditional money that uses the technology known as "blockchain." Unlike common cryptocurrencies, these deposits are backed by commercial banks and comply with current regulations. The main objective is to make money transfers faster and more efficient between different financial institutions.
The most notable aspect of this experiment is its "multi-bank" nature. This means that the five entities worked together to verify if their systems could communicate with each other without errors. During the trials, the banks simulated the sending and receiving of payments to ensure that the technology functions correctly in a real and shared environment.
