Patients denounce the blockage of an innovative brain tumor treatment in Catalonia
The Astuce Spain association has publicly denounced that the Catalan Health Service is preventing patients from accessing a new medical treatment for low-grade brain tumors. According to the organization, this drug represents the most significant breakthrough in recent decades for combating this specific disease.
The medication, which already has approval from the FDA in the United States and the European Medicines Agency, has proven effective in patients who previously had few therapeutic options. Despite these international endorsements, patients in Catalonia are encountering administrative barriers that prevent them from receiving the medication necessary to improve their quality of life.
The association has pointed out that this blockage constitutes a serious inequality in access to healthcare. Those affected argue that, as it is a pharmacological advancement validated by health authorities, there should be no bureaucratic obstacles delaying its administration in public hospitals.
For their part, health authorities have not yet offered a detailed response regarding the technical or economic reasons justifying this restriction. In the meantime, the families of the affected patients continue to demand an urgent solution so that the treatment is made available as soon as possible within the Catalan healthcare system.
